latif is the third bag of beans modus sent me in a box of goodies, and their coffee’s have not disappointed. even when sharing with coffee shops here in the city, they’ve all enjoyed them.
about the coffee now. latif is a washed bourbon from rwanda. typical african coffees, from what i’ve learned, is that they’re on the fruity, tart, almost earthy side. the taste notes on the bag say ‘tropical sweetness, reminiscent of your favourite childhood juice box.’
now, usually with taste notes like this, i’d make the coffee as a filter in my kalita, but i was feeling adventurous and crazy haha so i decided to make it as a cappuccino, and let’s just say, i wasn’t dissapointed. soft, tart, fruity strawberry tastes, mixed with the milk, was exactly what i was expecting. in my next cup though, i will make it up as filter.
modus is newish in the coffee shop scene in vancouver, a couple years in. but owner, sharif, has been in the coffee game for a long time. spending most of his time roasting, and visiting different regions for the best beans, he’s creating unique, delicious coffees that can be enjoyed in different methods. don’t believe me, read my other two taste blogs on hiro and dom.
if you’re from vancouver, or visiting, check out modus. they are up on west broadway by main. the facade on the outside blends in with the neighbourhood, so don’t miss out because once you get inside, its beautiful, and clean. nice big bar, pink walls, and touches of greenery from their plants, its a lovely spot.
trust me, don’t snooze on this place, go enjoy a coffee there.
