it’s been almost six months since we’ve been living here in mexico city. not going to lie, there have been times when i’ve felt a bit homesick, thinking about all the coffee shops i used to frequent. so when one of my besties said he was coming to visit, you already know what i was going to ask him to bring me. yup, coffee and a mug. and when he arrived with a prado mug and a bag of 49th parallel beans, i thought it was christmas. so thankful.
i couldn’t wait to open this bag up. i took a deep long breath and (insert drooling emoji), the aromas were just… even that thirty second bloom was sexy. i poured my first cup, it was a hot, dark taste. the mix of nuts and chocolate whet my pallet. then it started to cool down and that dark chocolatey taste started to transform to caramel flavour which the bag so rightly predicted.
i decided for my next cup, i’d try it with a creamer, just to have an idea of what this bean would be like in a flat white, or cappuccino, and man was it delicious. in this case, it was a smooth, chocolate flavour. medium, creamy, fantasticness. i think this might be the way to go, for me.
i may be a ways away from home, but having these beans here make me reminisce about going to 49th’s main street location, working on my laptop, and enjoying a nice cup and a lucky’s donut. now i can do that here, except i’ll just replace the donut with a churro 😛
