back in november 2018, my wifey was taking a course in la for a week so i tagged along. while she was studying hard, i was out galavanting checking out coffee shops. she was ok with it (at least that’s what she told me haha).

i wish i had a chance to see more coffee shops, but from the ones i did get a chance to check out, here were my top five! let me know if you agree/disagree, or would change something in the comments below.

5. coffee commissary

this place was really dope, literally a hole in the wall, you can walk right by and miss it. we arrived just as they were about to close but they were cool and served us. i had the gibraltar latte that has cinnamon in it i believe. also, their card machine wasn’t working so i had my coffee on the house! what’s not to like? another thing i really liked, was that they served 49th parallel beans, because i’m from vancouver. if you’re around the sunset/fairfax area, hit up commissary!

4. verve coffee roasters

on this day, i actually had work to do, so i took my laptop to verve on third. its such a beautiful location. nice clean walls with wood and metal accents, just amazing. the coffee was fantastic too. i enjoyed it with one of their recommended sticky croissants, damn! i felt very relaxed and quite enjoyed myself, i was able to get work done, while enjoying my surroundings.

3. go get em tiger

ok ok ok ok ok, this place was suuuuper cool! was checking out larchmont neighbourhood so i had to stop at gget. the merch, the coffee, and the dope astronaut, this place was perfect. that day i had their popular almond macadamia latte (drool), so good!

i loved gget so much that when my cousin from la came to visit me in mexico city last week, i asked him to bring me a mug and bag of minor monuments beans (you can read my blog about the beans in the “tastes” section of my website). I look forward to buying more stuff on their website!

2. alfred

but first…alfred in the alley. there are many alfred locations around la, and they are all unique in their own way, but for some reason, i just loved this one. again, a bit hard to find (literally in an alley), small and perfect. cool vibes, and outdoor seating, with shade from that la heat. that day i enjoyed a nice, refreshing, iced vanilla latte. and since i was a tourist, of course i got myself a mug, which i use quite often.

although i chose this location to write about, there other locations are also worth going to, like the one in beverly hills or silver lake. alfreds won’t let you down!

1. intelligentsia coffee

and last but not least, my number one, intelligentsia. this place is everything you want in a coffee shop. awesome location (i was only able to go to the one in venice beach), great swag, lots of room to either sit and chill inside, or out, without outdoor benches. i wish i had a chance to spend more time there or to go to other locations, but being in here for only five minutes while waiting for my coffee was enough for my to dream about it. if i’m back in la, this is the first place i’m going back to (tie with in and out haha). i’ve missed it so much that i even ordered beans and a mug online, which i’m still waiting for, but soon, i will have you again intelligentsia!
