a lot of firsts happened to me when i went to blend station. my first coffee sampling! im proud to say I had my first black coffee, first pour over, first atole de maiz, and first flat white.
not going to lie, i was pretty nervous going in as id never done anything like this before, but also very excited because this is something i’ve always wanted to do.
guill, an awesome barista that’s been working for blend station for two and a half years was awesome. although she didn’t speak english and i don’t speak spanish, we google translated our way through.
she started the sampling with a pour over, one from oaxaca, and another from kenya. I found the kenyan coffee a bit acidic and bitter for my liking, while the oaxacan coffee was sweeter and quite smooth, almost like drinking a fruity tea, it was delicious. the oaxacan coffee was the most enjoyable black coffee i’ve had in my short career haha
next, she made me a traditional mexican drink, atole de maiz. it’s made mainly from maiz (corn) and a bit of sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. it was delicious. it reminded me of a thicker eggnog, with a corn and cinnamon mix. great drink for a cold day.
lastly, she made me a flat white. it was perfect. i’d never tried one before but after doing a bit more research, this may be something I prefer over a latte as it’s not as milky, and stronger.
before I went on my way, I was so happy when she gave me a little sample of the oaxacan and kenyan beans to try at home, and i did, but definitely not as good as guills, hers were amazing. she also gave me a mug to take home with me which I loved because im addicted to mugs.
i must say, i quite enjoyed going to blend station, not only was the coffee fantastic, the staff is super friendly, they have cool merch like notebooks, bookmarks, books, and of course beans. and the coffee shop is pretty cool. they have murals everywhere of their logo, a nice large space with lots of seating, and a tree in the middle!
also, if you get a chance to use the bathroom, don’t miss the rad wallpaper.
blend station is a must-go, you won’t be disappointed😀
